On Saturday, a Selma native named Lillian Rentz decided to go to a local food spot in Selma called Burger King.

Last week, Rentz said when she was turning in from Highland Avenue to the parking lot near the popular burger spot, she thought it was a clear driving path, free of pot holes until she heard her car sound like it had been severely hit.

“On the way to Burger King, I rode into a hole that I didn’t even know existed,” Rentz said. “It felt like my whole car had fallen apart and something should be done. It should be something done to indicate that that hole is there or that they repair it, one or the other.”

When Rentz described her car going into hole and coming out, she indicated that she felt most of the damage hit her front end, leaving her with a shocked response of “What the heck?”

Prior to Rentz’s decision to drive into the parking lot, she said she felt hesitant not to go in that way but proceeded to anyway to get to the drive-thru to grab a quick bite to eat before heading home to go to work later that night.

Rentz said she does not plan on speaking to the management at Burger King about the incident but plans to limit her visits to the establishment in the future.

“This is the first time I’ve been here in a long time,” Rentz said. “I will limit my visits because this is something that should be addressed and at this point,I don’t know but I’m sure Burger King would say they’re not responsible for this. That’s going to be their first line of defense and so it just makes me limited. Like I say, I just didn’t notice it.”

Rentz went on to say that she would like to warn others in the city to be cautious of the hole and to know that it was truly a terrifying experience for her and possibly a hefty price for her car to be repaired.

“It should be addressed and to whom, I don’t know where to take it,” Rentz said. “But I know what Burger King’s defense is going to be and that is, that they are not responsible.”

Rentz said she does not plan to speak to the mayor of the city or the city council about the incident and she said she just plans to take care of the matter on her own.

“People of Selma, be very careful when you come into Burger King off Highland Avenue because it is a dangerous hole there and like me, you may not see it. So, just be careful,” Rentz said.
