Dr. John Plump has been an educator of Birmingham City Schools for more than 30 years and an author of educational literature since 2016.
Plump has written five books dedicated to teachers and students within the classroom to help them find and identify their academic success.
On Sunday, Plump will be signing copies of his latest book geared toward students called “The 21st Century Student’s WHY” that features educational questions and answers for students learning in classrooms today.
“In the book, there are 104 questions that I have asked from several students’ point of the view related to any and every subject in education,” Plump said. “And, I also answered the questions based upon my own research, knowledge and experience (being a teacher).”
The book signing event will be held at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 2315 26th Avenue North in Birmingham from 3 to 5 p.m.
The event will also include an introduction of the speaker and an open discussion Q &A with the author for those who are interested in attending.
The cost of the book is $25 at the event and can be purchased online at https://www.johnplump.com.
Plump said the book is beneficial to students from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade because he believes its never to early for a child to learn certain words, phrases or even concepts in education.
“But, if an elementary school principal decided that they wanted to expose their elementary-level students to high ordered thinking and wanted to try to expose them to different words that might be beyond their grade level, I might also advocate it for the elementary school level as well,” Plump said.
