On Monday, Montevallo’s historic “American Village” celebrated their 20th anniversary of Liberty that fell on a very important day in history which is President’s Day.
President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February and it is a national day of honor for the late George Washington who was the first president of the United States. According to the American Village Facebook page, it was Washington’s 288th national birthday.
In addition to the American Village social media page, the village’s website confirmed the split itinerary for both significant events. The events for the George Washington Celebration started around 10:30 A.M.
“We had about 400 people that attended our 20th anniversary celebration and we had another 500 who attended George Washington Birthday”, said Melanie Poole, The American Village Communication Officer.
In addition to that , Poole said “The American Village is a National Treasure and we are so lucky to have it right here in Montevallo”.
At noon, visitors gathered around the Washington Hall to sing “Happy Birthday” to Washington who the American Village calls their “Father of Our Country”.
Visitors of the Village had a chance to visit places like Oval office, The National Veterans Shrine and The Randall Museum. There were also two other places that was included in the tour, The Liberty Bell Garden and the Constitution Green.
The American Village’s admission to attend the celebratory events was just five dollars per person.
